OK, so I did this thing. February through March, photographers around the world submit some of their best work to the Shoot and Share Contest and tens of thousands of people vote on these images to find out who the “best of the best” are. Now, keep in mind that this is a completely informal contest; it’s not judged by professionals, instead this contest is open to everyone and anyone who wants to vote. Mostly it’s photographers who vote, likely those who’ve also entered the contest, however friends and family join in every year. I never ask you guys because, well, I don’t know why.  Seems silly I guess. Maybe I’ll ask next year. Probably not. Anyhow, there are I think 16 categories (everything from brides and wedding details to families and pets), and every chance to vote includes a 4 image slideshow from the same category. You vote for your favorite of those 4, and move on to another set. This goes on and on and on until hundreds of thousands of images are narrowed down to the finalists and top 100 in each category.

Here are the stats:

225,207 total images submitted to the contest

74,000 photographers involved

32,622,327 total votes

So, that’s like a lot of people. And SO MANY photos. I voted a lot (it is a fantastic way to procrastinate) and rarely saw any of my own photos, which is actually really awesome because you get so much inspiration from all of the amazing pictures that are submitted. It is CRAZY how much photographic talent there is in the world. Anyhow, these are the images that made it into the top 30% or higher from the contest. If you see “finalist” in the corner of the image it means that the photo made it though all 12 rounds of voting. “Top 100” means it was one of the top 100 photos in the category it was entered in.  Thanks for checking in and I hope you enjoy these photos.  You may even see one or two from your own wedding or family session (after all, my kitty Cleo made it in!) xx, Amy

snowy engagement

It’s been far too long since I’ve posted an engagement session, but they’re always so fun! I will definitely be posting more of my favorite past sessions coming. But first!… Wednesday I had the pleasure of driving up to Snoqualmie Pass with Brooke, Jack, and their dog Baker for a little fun in the snow. I know I’ve mentioned this a million times before, but if you have a dog PLEASE include them in your engagement or wedding!! Everything is more fun with a dog. Even when that dog completely freaks because they’re doing avalanche control on the mountain and far too many big BOOMs are going off. Poor, sweet Baker! But he pulled through like a champ, as did Jack and Brooke and we captured some pretty fun images. 🙂 Only a few more months until these lovelies tie the knot at Woodland Park Zoo’s rose garden and I cannot wait! xx, Amy

Thompson Hotel Wedding

Here’s another whirlwind couple who planned their wedding in just weeks.  I have to say, I’m kinda loving this quick approach to wedding planning that seems to be taking hold this year! Kate and Jasmine were married just last weekend at the gorgeous new Thompson Hotel in Seattle, high above the city in their swanky rooftop bar they call The Nest. Let me first say that absolutely everything about this day was fabulous. Jasmine’s Vera Wang gown and royal blue pompom heels were TO DIE for and Kate’s tailored suit and holster socks (she’s a police officer) were absolute perfection. Their cake was stunning (and tasty) and custom designed by Chef Kate with the color inspiration coming from Jasmine’s bouquet (which is paper, if you can believe it) created by Pink & Posey. What started as a morning of torrential downpour, ended in blue skies and sunshine and all the smiles. I cannot thank Jasmine and Kate enough for sharing their perfect day with me and to all of their amazing friends and family who were all so friendly and made me feel incredibly welcome. All my love to you all! xx, Amy

Romantic Hollywood Schoolhouse Wedding

Last month I was overjoyed to capture Natasha and Danielle’s romantic Hollywood Schoolhouse wedding in the heart of Woodinville. These ladies created such a lovely and unique backdrop for all of their family and friends. These two love to travel and I really liked how they incorporated all of the special little details- from the table settings of globes and greenery to their Boston cream cake set atop antique travel cases.  Their guests signed a watercolor map and gave suggestions for their next great trip and the joyous 10-year-old in me loved the fortune tellers at each table which opened up into menus. OH! And what an incredibly cool idea to create a custom unity painting during the ceremony! Big hugs to Danielle, Natasha, their friends and family for sharing your absolutely wonderful day with us. xx, Amy

seattle waterfront elopement

Elizabeth and Ty know how to throw a party together. I received a text on a Friday asking if I was available to photograph their wedding vows… high atop the city in a gondola on The Great Wheel…in 7 days. Well, it turned out to be 8 days but there we were- a lovely ceremony presided over by a friend, 175 feet above sea level.  And it was absolutely wonderful.  I love it when a plan comes together and I am so honored that these two chose me to capture the magic.  Best wishes to my favorite new Foxes for a long and happy life together!!  xx, Amy
